Recipe Ingredients:

8 oz Flour
teaspoon Bicarbonate of soda
teaspoon Cream of tartar
teaspoon Baking powder
1 oz Butter
1 t Golden syrup
Buttermilk OR
Full cream milk OR
Sour milk

Preparation Method:

  1. Sift the flour into a bowl.
  2. Add the other dry ingredients and mix.
  3. Rub in the butter.
  4. Add the syrup and sufficient milk.
  5. and mix with a palette knife to a soft consistency.
  6. Turn on to a floured surface and roll quickly and lightly (handle as little as possible) to about inch thick.
  7. Cut in rounds.
  8. Grease and heat the girdle and, with a slice or broad knife, turn once until brown on both sides.
  9. Serve freshly baked, spread with butter.
