Scottish Recipes: Bread And Butter Pudding

Recipe Ingredients:

7 slices bread
soft butter
4 cup milk
3 eggs, slightly beaten
cup sugar
teaspoon. salt
cup raisins
1 teaspoon. vanilla
teaspoon. cinnamon
Preheat oven to 325F
Butter a 2 qt. baking dish.

Preparation Method:

  1. Spread butter generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Line bottom and sides of baking dish with buttered bread.
  3. Mix milk, eggs, sugar, salt, raisins, vanilla, cinnamon; pour over bread.
  4. Place extra pieces of buttered bread on top, press down to submerge.
  5. Let stand 10 minutes, longer if bread is very dry.
  6. Bake, cover for 30 minutes, then uncover for 30 minutes; total 60 minutes.
  7. Put under broiler, uncovered until top becomes a deep-golden crust.
  8. Serve warm with heavy cream.
