Young Adam (2003)

Good in places, well acted, extremely well shot, but too dark overall, April 3, 2006

Pros: Well acted and well shot in the west of Scotland
Cons: It was a bit hard to follow in parts and leaves you feeling a bit gloomy

The film develops into a rather bleak and dreary depiction of an emotionless young man, Joe (Ewan McGregor) and his dark struggle with unexplained guilt. The meandering story of a lonely sociopath's journey on a 1950's canal barge, and the strange sexual encounters which inhabit his existence, takes an ever-darker turn as the film progresses.

It's certainly not recommended for anyone who is depressed, but it is entertaining in a gloomy sort of way, and there is not shortage of sex scenes as Joe destroys one relationship after another.

As far removed from McGregor's role in Star Wars as you can get!!!
