L'Ariosto
Description:
L'Ariosto, serving some of the finest Italian cuisine in Glasgow, has been established for over 30 years. The interior resembles a beautiful courtyard in a traditional Italian village where you can enjoy the best in wining dining and dancing to live entertainment from the resident duo 'Limited Edition' (Tues-Sat).
At L'Ariosto we serve only the freshest of fish, as well as prime cuts of meat combined with specially imported ingredients direct from Italy. This makes our dishes as authentic as possible in Scotland.
Indicative menu: Trio of wild mushrooms (picked locally); mozzarella di buffala; homemade fresh pasta; monkfish wrapped in parma ham on a mushroom sauce; cervo alla faristiera - medallions of veal pan-fried with red onion, grapes, rosemary and finished with wine, balsamic vinegar and demi jus.
Prices per person:
Lunch from £10.50
Pre-theatre £10.50 - £13.95
Dinner £25 - £37

Pros:
Nice environment, Good wine selection
Cons:
Food and service not up to the level expected for prices charged
|
|
For the prices charged in this restuarant one would expect the finest levels of service and best quality of food ever. However personally L'Ariosto failed on both of these. On the plus side the meat I had (beef incidentally) was well cooked and full of flavour but the accompanying vegatables were certainly not up the high standards expected. Service was also very poor; when asked to provide a separate bill for drinks they were unwilling to do so because of the "till system". I have never experienced this problem before at a restuarant, normally people are very happy to write out a new receipt but here it was clearly too much effort. If you want to take someone somewhere to show off how much you're spending and have an adequate meal then this place for you but you will be able to find far more modestly priced resturants which will provide you with just as good, if not better food. Expect to pay £8-10 for a starter and upwards of £25 for your main. A bottle of wine will start from about £20 upwards of which there is a good selection.
