Dragon-i
Description:
Opened in June 2003, the Dragon-I restaurant has been lauded as the leading edge in contemporary western/oriental fusion cuisine and the first of its kind in Scotland. The distinctive and beautifully presented dishes are created by first class chefs, hand picked from several of the finest five star hotels in South-East Asia.
Indicative menu: Mango and cheese wrapped in chicken served with mango sauce; Golden fried pastry parcels stuffed with roasted duck and vegetables; Grilled fillet beef stir-fried in a peppercorn sauce, served with garlic butter rice; Mixed seafood simmered in a champagne sauce, served with Asian noodles; Lychee Crème Brulée.
Prices per person:
Lunch £9.95 (2 courses) or £9.95 (Chinese Tapas); Dinner £20-£25, Pre-theatre £12.95 (2 courses) £14.95 (3 courses)
Seats: 80

Pros:
Excellent cuisine and first rate service.
Cons:
Large windows looking out on Hope Street can sometimes spoil the ambience.

I've been to Dragon-i on several occasions in the last couple of years. My first experience was excellent and left me wanting to sample offerings from the menu that none of my party had ordered. The king prawn in champagne sauce starter is sublime - as was the Thai inspired crispy, chilli chicken (which is now no longer on the menu). The fine selection of main courses using scottish beef, prawns, sea bass and other regional ingredients is unparalleled in my experience of eating out in Scotland. If you like good Thai food then there is every probability that you will like the offerings available at Dragon-i. This is not Glaswegian Chinese food as we know (and frequently suffer) it - this is an exercise in combining the best Chinese and Thai flavours with the best in Western cooking styles.ps - to enjoy at the food at its best I would recommend drinking one of the several excellent Asian beers on offer rather than wine. It seems to add to the overall enjoyment of the food.
